About AlisonMy name is Alison Lee and I am a passionate art educator. I have been teaching elementary art for the past 12 years at Lake Tahoe School. I instruct a wide range of grades, Pre-K through 8th grade. I work collaboratively with all grades throughout the school year helping create holiday programs and back drops for events such as K-2 Thanksgiving performance and the famous LTS PK-8th grade Holiday Show each December. I also work with our graduating 8th grade class each year to create a class mural. My career is both exciting and challenging, there is never a dull moment in the art studio.
I have always been drawn to the arts. In elementary school after finishing my assigned work, I would copy designs from my pee chee folders to pass the time. My mother was my first artist mentor, she earned a degree in Fine Art from the University of Chicago, IL. Growing up in our home was like having an art gallery, it was filled with her many oil paintings and watercolors. She gave me much support and inspiration as I began my journey in the art world. In 1994 I earned my BFA with an emphasis in Printmaking from Sierra Nevada College. After working in an art gallery as a picture framer for 9 years, I began teaching art part time at Lake Tahoe School. A few years later, I found myself back at Sierra Nevada College. In 2008, I received my elementary teaching credential and eventually a Masters degree in the Art of Education. I am also a working artist and sell a variety of original artworks online and at local stores and galleries. For me, staying connected to the art world in this way is essential to keep my art career in education current and fresh. For pleasure, I am avid outdoor enthusiast. I am an avid SUPsurfing, skiing, and hiking. I have a deep reverence for nature and it is big part of my exisistence. |
